Links
Our Links Page is intended to capture a brief view of available on-line sources of information about the forms and practices of worship of the Episcopal Church, the wider Anglican community, and, when called for, issues of the day in which either the larger church or members of St. John's are involved or have an interest. We also hope that these links may supplement study by members of the congregation. In that spirit, suggestions are welcomed. Please, send them in.
The Bible ~
There are many translations of the Bible. Here are three, in their entirety, available for reading and searching on-line.
The Episcopal Lectionary ~
As described by the Episcopal Church USA (ECUSA), "a Lectionary is a table of readings from Scripture appointed to be read at public worship. The association of particular texts with specific days began in the 4th century. The Lectionary [1969, revised 1981] developed by the Roman Catholic Church after Vatican II provided for a three-year cycle of Sunday readings. This Roman lectionary provided the basis for lectionary in The Book of Common Prayer 1979 as well as those developed by many other denominations.
The Book of Common Prayer ~
Along with the Hymnal, The Book of Common Prayer, and Administration of the Sacraments, and Other Rites and Ceremonies of the Church is the other book found in the racks on the back of the pews. The program for any service in the church will refer to Bible passages, Hymnal selections or Book of Common Prayer pages. Here is a link to the complete Book on-line.
The 1940 Hymnal ~
Music and worship have gone hand in hand since the dawn of mankind and is an integral part of our service. For our Holy Eucharist services, five hymns are scheduled and for Morning Prayer there are four hymns. Though the hymns are usually scheduled according to the Episcopal Choirmasters Handbook, there are often variations to the suggested schedule made by the organist. The organist will also take congregational hymn requests from time to time. The following link is an online resource for the 1940 Hymnal compiled be Oremus Hymnal.
